Meet Our Old Friends: Legendary Lemont Establishments

You truly can’t pick a bad restaurant or bar to visit when you’re in Lemont Downtown. Every place has its own vibe, great food, cool drinks and cocktails, leaving you craving more long after you’re gone.

If you’re a long-time Lemonter, you probably have more than a few memories of taking down a burger at Nicks, celebrating a special occasion at La Dolce Vita, or grabbing drinks at Tom’s Place.

As a companion to the fan-favorite series, Meet Your New Neighbor, we’d like to take some time over the next few weeks to introduce you to our Old Friends. Get to know some of our treasured shops, restaurants and taverns to add to your next day in Lemont.

Nick’s Tavern

Established in 1945 and still the best burger around. The love for this legendary spot runs deep with long-time Lemonters sharing memories of getting a Nickburger after ball games, bachelor parties, and baby showers. Their signature juicy 1lb burger is made with fresh, locally-sourced beef ground fresh every day. You’ll find a menu full of Chicago hot dogs, Italian beef, and grilled cheese. Nick’s is family owned with Don Quaid buying the establishment from its original owners a little over 20 years ago.

Hot Tip: If the Nickburger is too much, they also offer the “Little Nick.” This old-school spot remains cash-only and open for dine-in and carry-out.

Visit: Located 221 Main Street or view their website

La Dolce Vita Lemont

Step back into Little Italy when you walk into this historic 1871 building with cozy, rustic charm. Voted one of Chicago’s Best, La Dolce Vita is known for their classic Italian-American dishes and wine best shared with friends and family. We love the filetto di manzo alla griglia (char-broiled filet mignon), petto di pollo alla francese (chicken fransese), and their delicious raviloi. The entire menu is worth exploring and their warm, inviting space is perfect for both your next intimate gathering or that big family gathering in their beautiful private event room. Plus they have an entire gluten-free menu so everyone can enjoy without those post-pasta tummy troubles!

Hot Tip: Pork Chop Wednesday! Every other Wednesday they serve their signature 16oz pork chop pounded thin, breaded, topped with Milanese sauce and finished with three cheeses.

PetersEn’s Main Inn

Pool Tables and Vintage vibes at Peterson's Main Inn Dive bar in Lemont Illinois

Main Inn is a well-loved local tavern in Lemont—and a legend among area pool leagues, where they regularly send teams to the World Pool Championships. Look at all the trophies, and check out the newspaper stories adorning the walls chronicling past wins. There’s been a tavern on this corner for as long as anyone knows! Stop in if you’re interested in joining a league, or check for nights with open pool. Bring cash when you visit this local family-owned spot.

Hot Tip: If you meet the owner, Duane Petersen, and he offers to buy you a shot, be warned: he ONLY drinks Malört!

Tom’s Place

If you’ve seen the early 00s classic Save the Last Dance then you probably saw a quick glimpse of this legendary tavern. Proprietor Mark Laketa is the third-generation owner of this long-time Lemont spot. With cold classic beers and friendly folks, you’ll want to make Tom’s Place the next place you visit on your stay in Lemont Downtown.

Hot Tip: Yes, they do have Blatz available in cans! Be sure to ask for it.
