Celebrate Earth Day 2022 in Lemont

Earth Day 2022 Activities in Lemont

All long-time Lemonters know that Lemont is the perfect place to get outdoors, embrace nature, and be thankful for the amazing planet that we call home. We’ve long embraced the easy walking trails, bike rides along the canal, and adventures at the Forge, with easy access to delicious, local food and shopping.

This Earth Day 2022, The Forge, Lemont Township, and a number of local businesses are helping us learn more about what we can do to protect the environment. If you’re looking for more ways to get out and enjoy nature this Earth Day with your family, we’ve picked a few activities for this weekend.

Plan for a full day of family-friendly fun at The Forge

Saturday, April 23

You’ll find a full day of presentations, workshops, and activities that feature educators, experts in environmental care, and vendors from all around the Chicagoland area. This one day event from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM is FREE to all attendees with face painting, nature hikes, and an inspiring, opening message from Village of Lemont Mayor John Egosfke! You’ll even find Lemont Downtown staple, Three Stories, with a selection of children’s books about nature and science.

Save the Bees with the Lemont heritage woodland sanctuary

Saturday, April 30

Did you know that almost 90% of wild plants and 75% of wild crops depend on bee pollination? We need them to survive! In this free, fun, and family-friendly event sponsored by the Lemont Township Community Center, you’ll see the unveiling of the new Bee Habitat donated by the Lemont Lions Club and meet local beekeeper, Mark Pawlak, and learn all about the conservation of bees and butterflies and how they impact our environment.

Find something new to you at the Lemont Community Garage Sale

Friday, April 22 to Sunday, April 24

If you haven’t been following the trends, #thrifting is all the rage these days. It’s a simple way to guarantee a one-of-a-kind treasure and to be the envy of all of your friends when you turn a fixer-upper into a masterpiece. Stock up on gently used kids’ clothes for the change of season, vintage furniture, and household items by finding nearby participants and seeing what they have to offer.

Prepare to get outside for camping season.

Hop on over to Camp Bullfrog Lake for a few nights of camping, backpacking, and roasting s’mores by the fire. You could rough it and pitch a tent, pull up your RV, or rent one of the 10+ person cabins with electricity and air conditioning. A wonderful escape from the city with clean campgrounds and lots of accessibility options.

New to Camping? We recommend joining the upcoming Camping 101 training on May 5th. Learn more and reserve your campsite here.
